Contest No. 3 Extended

Okay, gang, here is the best I can figure on Contest No. 3. We have gotten only three entries.

Now, as I mentioned in a previous post, my email has been sickly, and I could very well have received more for this contest. But three is all I have found.

And, that is not near enough. I hope we didn’t make the contest too tough, because we are returning to it.

The plan is to keep the three entries we have, and to extend Contest No. 3 until Nov. 25.

If you remember, this contest was in honor of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, whose Sherlock Holmes stories thrilled generations.

The contest is to take this quote from The Red-Headed League, “It is quite a three pipe problem, and I beg that you won’t speak to me for fifty minutes,” and in 25 words or less answer what the three pipe problems were: it can rhyme, be in verse, or a simple sentence.

Such as, “My first problem was to find a match, Watson. I then had to find a striker and light this infernal wet tobacco.”

Above all be clever. You might even add a touch of Thanksgiving to the quote: “Three pipes, a turkey and to the table! I found my pipe, but how to cook the old bird? A second pipe produced a blacked chicken and then they all showed up hungry. Ah, but there was the pizza delivery, just in time.”

Okay, that’s my two cents and it isn’t very good. You have the idea, I hope. Now go to it.

Remember, 25 words or less. Put your thinking caps on.

And good luck to all. This is a toughie! Quite apropos for the fall season with winter staring us in the face, don’t you think?

Send all entries to editor@pipesmokersintelligencer.org

Deadline is Nov. 25.

Top five winners plus an honorable mention (if there is one) will receive your choice of an 8 oz tin of tobacco from Cornell & Diehl.

In your emails, please write in the subject line: “PSI Contest No. 3″.

Also, please include your snail mail address to help me cut down on double duty work. All home addresses are considered proprietary and confidential, and will not be released to anyone but C&D!

Good luck to all.

Sorry to hear about your problems, hope every thing is working out okay. I’m in insurance, and finger injuries used to be considered minor nuisance injuries, but not in the computer age. It can take someone from busy busy to totally disabled, and that can be with very minor injuries. And yours sounded somewhat more than that.

    Wishing you a speedy recovery.
