What more can I add? I saw it all coming with the passage of the F.T.C.A. in recent times! I read, I wrote Representatives, I preached in my Forum and it is now all coming to roost! This article says it all... as usual. Our Editor is dedicated to preserving America, our Freedom as individuals and, of course, pipe smoking as our Right. Black Market... I am ready! Our Country is sinking like the Titanic,

Well said! The tobacco industry is all but dead here in Washington State because of taxes. When you have a 95% tax rate on the sales price of OTP it makes it real difficult to stay in business. Add this proposed federal increase and what few tobacco retailers are still in business will be closing their doors in a matter of days from the signing of this bill.

I have just acted to protect individual freedom.

Whether you have ever smoked a Cigar or Pipe, I urge my fellow Americans to protect freedom and free us from this witch hunts.

And, if you have ever smoked, then you should either turn yourself in to the Soup Nazis or get a backbone and do this immediately:

Hi I would like to receive action alerts to protect my rights as a pipe smoker and protect the producers of the aromatic tobacco products I love and have smoked off and on since I was 15 years old. I have never been addicted to tobacco. I do smoke a pipe and have an exemplary collection of Meerschaums. I am what you would call an occasional, but serious smoker. I enjoy my pipe and it conjures up images of my earliest childhood memories of my Uncle a Tobacco Pipe smoker and a neighbor that worked on his boat while smoking a Meerschaum. I am a Professional Electronics Engineer and have been working in that field for oh about 24 years. I am currently 47 years old.

I am also a harm reduction advocate and an anti-prohibitionist. I frankly don't care if you choose to smoke maple leaves or rub legal hemlock plants that grow in the woods behind my house on your body. I smoke my tobacco in my own home to avoid the negativity I encounter in the outside world. I am prepared to begin organizing this non-sense. You simply need to put me in touch with the right organizations and I will take it from there.

Sincerely, I remain

Matthew John Hammett
Director, Northern Virginia Regional
Virginians Against Drug Violence

Feel Free to look me up on Facebook. I have a project there at the moment working to end the Insane War on Drugs and move us out of Salem.

There are certainly dangers to tobacco, but I am certainly more likely to die simply driving to the grocery store to get my food. This is an unacceptable situation and I am tired of my tax money funding a red-herring. Cancer is largely a result of pollution. It is hysteria to think you are being harmed by someone smoking a cigarette near you, unless perhaps you have asthma, allergies and are in a closed area with excessive smoke.

No one is making you smoke. You are not a victim. Tobbacco is an American Heritage and I was born and raised in Virginia and it is definitely a Virginia Heritage. I choose to occasionally smoke Cigars (rarely) and choose not to smoke cigarettes. And, for some time now like one in three Americans I choose not to drink alcohol, which is and should be legal, just like opium, cannabis and a whole variety of Government forbidden substances.

I do not wish to converse with people who do not agree with me. If you disagree take yourself elsewhere. I am interested in hearing from likeminded supporters of true liberty and freedom.

PS--Our website is not fully up to date. We move very fast and do not spend energy on things that are of marginal importance. I am most interested in getting and disseminating viable action alerts and frankly do not care if you are the tobacco industry, a farmer, an activist or just a fed up American lover of freedom. We need to pull together.

Yes, Congress should carve a nitch out of the F.T.C.A. for Cigars and Pipe Tobacco. The whole idea all started with cigarettes, anyway. A cigar and a pipe just ain't a cigarette! The RYO trick to label cigarette tobacco as pipe tobacco not only back-fired, but it brought the whole wrath of Congress on "our" butts! It's so very sad. I can only hope there are a few pipe smoker's in Congress that will see the light and do the right thing.

Michael: You might look at some of the pipe sites. I like PipesMagazine.com You will find all sorts of information there. Also, Google pipe break-in. That will lead you to more. There are a good many pipe forums as well that do nothing but talk about pipes, tobacco and smoking.
But, to give you my theory, get some fresh honey. Put a small amount on your little finger and squib it around the inside of the pipe. Then load the pipe with some good Virginia all the way to the top. Smoke it all the way down until there is nothing but white ash. After that, just continue to smoke the pipe slowly from top to bottom.
Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to get back to me at PSI if you have more questions. And thanks for checking us out!
