Pipe Tobacco Faces 775% Tax
Kevin Godbee at PipesMagazine.com has just sent an important notice for all of us. Here it is:
“We just found out about a proposed 775% tax increase on pipe tobacco!
“A new bill would raise the tax on pipe tobacco from $2.8311 to $24.78 per pound.
“Obviously, this is ludicrous, and there is no way we can let this happen.
“We have made it easy for you to take action. We have a free automated service that will email your Congressman and Senator.
“We’ve already written the letter for you. You can write your own comments too if you like.
“Please post this in your favorite forums so all pipe smokers can help us stop this tax increase.”

Thanks for posting that Fred!
THAT’ll show Al-Qaeda! Yeah baby! And prolly fix the recession, too. Oh Oh Oh-BAMA!
We are losing our rights one by one. We are being taxed to a point of ridiculousness that is beyond belief. Big Pharma is pushing for smoking bans at all levels of government. Now, I cannot smoke my pipe in my own private business. Judges continue to say that my private property rights mean nothing when it comes to smoking. People are not being allowed to make their own decisions as to whether or not they wish to enter a building where smoking is allowed. As these bans are passed, tax revenue becomes reduced and governments raise taxes across the board to offset those lost funds. Long standing businesses are being destroyed and the employees of those businesses are losing their jobs. The tax revenue collected by those businesses disappears and lawmakers, who cannot live without that revenue, raise other taxes to continue their spending. If we do not stop these nanny lawmakers, we will all be living like sheep in a pin.
Thanks for posting that link to pipesmagazine.com. I appreciate it since I use the RSS feed function on this blog for my pipe news. I feel it is very important for all of the pipe smoking community to take action to prevent things like this from happening. After all, the last thing the world wants is a large contingent of angry people over tax increases, who vote on a regular basis.
I’d like to exercise a lesson we all learned from our revolutionary days, and that is to march in protest with pitchforks. Actually, I’d like to stick one of those prongs right up the bunghole of one of those congressmen who proposed this thieving bill.
