McCranie’s has just joined the fight:

Look at this email from the popular retailer in Charlotte, N.C.:

McCranie’s

Stop The Tax!

A new bill in Congress would raise the tax on pipe tobacco by 775% from $2.8311 to $24.78 per pound. H.R. 4439, the Tobacco Tax Parity Act of 2010 was introduced on January 13, 2010.

Below is a link where you can take action. It is a free automated service that will email your Congressman and Senator. There is a letter already written, but we would encourage you to edit it into your own words.

Perhaps you can pass this on to all who may be interested.

I did my part in contacting Congress and I have posted this info on our Forum. Who are they gonna tax when smoker’s are no longer buying tobacco? How about taxing the Anti’s!

I am a consumer of U.S. tobaccos from abroad. I enjoy good quality in fair prices like many friends of mine. This means that euro currency is crossing the ocean directly to US sellers and US governments pockets.

Pipe tobacco is not like cigars nor cigarettes. It is a different product much less harmful and not addicting so it sould be encouraged instead of hunted put together with the cigarettes. Once a pipe smoker, cigarettes will never be in your mouth. The difference is like mcMenus against your mom’s cooking.

A price explosion would lead us to buy from other non US dealers however we like the american blends. So better consider again, look who the real enemy is and let our humble tradition go on and those producers stay into business.
